Pune Gets Rs 73,000 Crore Development Budget; Aims To Become India’s #1 City (Full Details)

Pune is soon on its way to becoming the country’s most livable city and the government has planned to invest as much as Rs. 73000 crores!

Pune is already well known as the Oxford of the East, the second-largest IT hub of the country, and the top automobile and manufacturing hub of India as well.

Pune To Become Most Liveable City Of India; Draft Development Plan Worth Rs. 73000 Proposed

The draft development plan (DP) proposed for the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is worth Rs. 73000 and aims to make Pune the most liveable habitat and a premium international investment destination of India.

As per Suhas Diwase, metropolitan commissioner and CEO, PMRDA, the plan will bring about increased livability and make sure that there is  sustainable development and environmental resilience in the city. 

There are five goals of the DP – convenient (mobility), prudent (economic and employment growth), resilient (environment), efficient (infrastructure) and self-sufficient (housing and amenities).

Apparently, the draft states that different towns will be created that will be self-sufficient and have a unique economic model of their own. These will complement with  the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

Along with that, the DP proposes  26 town planning schemes, 10 metro rail routes, two ring roads (123 km and 173 km), 59 public housing projects, 152.19-km Pune-Nashik semi high-speed rail, 89.65-km crescent railway, 12 logistics hubs, and nine truck terminals are some of the initiatives that have been mentioned in this draft plan.

18 Growth Centres Projected In Pune

The DP also states that there will be around 18 growth centers that will be connected to each other and also with the PMC and the PCMC through a mass transit system. The proposed urban growth centers are Chakan, Alandi, Wagholi, Loni-Kalbhor, Khadakwasla, Pirangut, Hinjavadi, Talegaon, Malavali, Khed-Rajgurunagar, Shikrapur, Uruli-Kanchan, Saswad, Khed, Narsapur, Ranjangaon, Yavad Kedgaon, comprising 233 villages in all. The rural growth centres would include Pabal, Nhavaa, Rahu, Kikavi, Sangarun, Paud, Kale, and Kadus.

As per reports, GIS-based technology will be employed to prepare the development plan. 

The first of the projects is the Rs 6,124-crore PMRDA Metro link on which a Tata-Siemens JV  will begin work. This will be followed by an international exhibition centre. The first mode town planning project of the PMRDA is Mahalunge-Maan which will be a high tech city spanning over 250 acres.
