One Common Charger For All Smartphones? These Countries May Impose This Rule

A legislative proposal for a standard charger for mobile phones, tablets, and headphones might result in excess electronic waste and might affect the innovation process.

On Thursday, the European Commission will release a legislative proposal for a standard charger for mobile phones, tablets, and headphones. Apple is, of course, the prime target and this proposal might affect Apple more than its competitors.

USB-C Chargers Mandatory For Mobile Phones By 2024

For more than a decade, the European Union executive and legislators have been proposing a standard charger, claiming that it would be better for the environment and more convenient for users.

As a result, the Commission now seeks to separate the sale of chargers from the sale of gadgets, as well as propose a unified charging port.

By 2024, if the proposed legislation is enacted, all cellphones sold in the European Union would be required to have USB-C chargers.

USB-C connectors are used to charge Android-based smartphones. Apple is the main target as iPhones are charged via its Lightning cable.

How It Will Affect The iPhone Maker Apple?

According to the regulatory agency, manufacturers must use the same fast-charging software standard for all mobile phones and tablets. Apple is the main target as iPhones are charged via its Lightning cable.

Apple has claimed that these rules might result in excess electronic waste and might affect the innovation process.

They claimed that requiring connectors to conform to a single kind might stifle innovation, result in a mountain of electronic waste, and irritate consumers.
