Indian Railways Will Train 50,000 Youth With These Special Skills: Eligibility, Job Prospects?

Skilled human resources are the backbone of any developing economy. They become the fuel of it and propel me towards great heights. Keeping this in mind a program under the aegis of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), has been launched by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology. The program has been named Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana.

The scheme has been developed with the intention of not only improving employability but also upgrade the skills of self-employed people. This will also definitely contribute towards Skill India Mission.

Program Details

Indian Railways has decided to impart training to 50000 candidates over a period of three years. In the beginning as a pilot project, the training will be provided to 1000 candidates.

 The ministry has said that the training will be provided in four trades viz. Electrician, Welder, Machinist and Fitter. The program will involve initial basic training of 100 hours.

For now the training shall be provided free of cost.

Candidates who are 10th passed and between 18-35 years shall be eligible to apply. However, based on their training candidates will not be eligible for any kind of job in Indian Railways.

Application and Selection Procedure

A nodal website is under development. It will serve as the single source of information about programs offered, notification inviting application, lists of selected candidates, results of selection, final assessment, study material, and other details.

For getting shortlisted for this program participants will have to apply online. For now, applicants will have to apply in response to the advertisements issued locally in the initial phase. Submission of online application shall be opened soon once the website gets up and running.

Selection of candidates will be done by a transparent mechanism on the basis of marks in matriculation. 

At the end of the program, trainees shall be required to undergo a standardized assessment. They will be awarded a certificate in the allotted trade by the National Rail & Transportation Institute, upon conclusion.

75 Railway training institutes spread across the country will be providing the training in above mentioned trades. This will help in covering youth from all over the country.
