ColorOS 12 based on Android 12 will come to Oppo and OnePlus smartphones, the company confirmed. The new UI layer will come to Oppo phones as well as OnePlus phones that have been using ColorOS in China. The smartphone maker has revealed the names of the devices that will receive new versions of ColorOS 12 starting October this year.
The latest ColorOS update will be available on OnePlus phones in China, and OnePlus phones outside China will have the merged ColorOS and OxygenOS UI.
The newly launched OnePlus Nord 2 5G was the first phone to come with merged ColorOS OxygenOS UI, and with time to come more ColorOS features will make its way into OnePlus phones outside China.
We will get to see ColorOS 12 features on later global versions of OnePlus phones, and as many earlier guessed, slowly OxygenOS could lose its identify and ColorOS will probably dominate OnePlus phones outside of China with more ColorOS features.
The latest update features a fresh design with a set of improved privacy security features.
- Quick View cards, which will display details about applications in the card window in real-time.
- Cross platform support, you can operate your phone through a Windows 10 or 11 laptop.
- A new feature to get a notification in the status bar when apps activate the camera or microphone.
- New 3D avatar feature called Omoji which users can customise according to their desire.
- New shortcuts: click to switch to a small window, a double click to switch to full-screen and the option to drag the corners to adjust the size.
- Smart Sidebar 2 which will help users to multitask easily.
- ColorOS 12 will include Oppo’s Quantum Animation Engine to offer improved animations to the software.
ColorOS 12 will be released first on Oppo’s Find X3 Pro flagship phone along with OnePlus 9 Pro 5G and the OnePlus 9 5G in China followed Oppo Find X2 series, Oppo Reno 6 series and Oppo Reno 5 series in November and December, followed by older Oppo and OnePlus phones next year.
