Passwords are tricky. Or maybe not. But is a universal truth that it is a mammoth task to manage the myriad of passwords that you have to enter at each website you have an account with. It can be overwhelming. At the same time the passwords are are easy to hack or susceptible to data leaks and breaches. So somebody had to come up with a solution for this problem.
Microsoft has a solution for you.
IT and technology companies like Google already offer alternative methods of authentication. Now it seems like Microsoft has also come up with a way to reduce the hassle for its users.
While gearing up for the launch of Windows 11, Microsoft is also rolling out an option to disable passwords for its Microsoft accounts. Once this option is enabled, without a password you will be able to access all of the company’s services including Outlook, OneDrive, Xbox Series X/S, and more.
Steps for going password-less
For this, you will need to download the Microsoft authenticator app and get it installed on one of your devices. The app is available on the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
Once installed, follow the instructions and link your Microsoft account to the app. Once that is done, open Microsoft’s security options for your account. After that, click on Advanced Security Options, then you need to scroll down to find Additional Security Options. In that, you should see an option to turn Passwordless Account on or off.
Once it is turned on, you will receive an approval request on your authenticator app. The request will be verified by cross-checking your device’s security pin or use your fingerprint or FaceID.
With that, you can use Microsoft services without needing a password.
It should be noted that you can re-enable your password anytime you want.
