The news of the Indian government planning to privatize Air India is not a new one. It has been making rounds for quite a while now. But the interesting part is that the chances of the national air carrier going back to its original owner i.e Tatas are pretty high. And it seems like the Singaporean partner of Tata group in the Airline business has no problem in letting Tata integrate Vistara with Air India.
If Tata group reacquires Air India, it will be integrated with Vistara
According to sources, if the national carrier is acquired by the Tata Group, Singapore Airlines (SIA) is open to integrating Air India’s flight network with that of Vistara.
Even though SIA will not be joining its joint venture partner Tata Group’s bid for Air India, according to sources, it has shown a green signal to Tata Group to go ahead with the bid.
The bidding process for the iconic carrier is still on. The last date to submit bids for Air India is September 15.
“Vistara and AI will be two carriers that will work with each other in terms of integrating their flight network both internationally and in the domestic sector. SIA, however, will not be part of the AI bid,” a source reported.
No comments from both companies involved
When contacted by reporters, Tata Group had not responded while this article was being published. At the same time, Singapore Airlines declined to comment on the development.
“We do not comment on any confidential discussions that we may or may not be having with our partners,” SIA said in a statement.
Vistara is a 51-49 joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines.
The salt-to-steel conglomerate, Tata, Â also owns a majority (84%) stake in AirAsia India. The airline is a joint venture with Malaysia-based AirAsia Bhd.
