The Rajasthan IT department recently ordered telecom operator Vodafone Idea to pay the amount within a month, otherwise, it will have to pay 10 per cent interest per annum.

Why Does Vodafone Idea Have To Pay Rs 27.5 lakh To One Of Its Customers?

Bhanu Pratap, who was given a duplicate SIM card that belonged to someone else and transferred Rs 68.5 lakh from IDBI bank to his other accounts.

The funds were fraudulently transferred from his account using a duplicate SIM card produced by Vodafone, the sim card was issued without proper verification of customer identifying credentials. This was a huge mistake that is costing the telecom companies to pay lakhs to one of their customers.

Following five days, the victim was able to access his SIM card, after which he received texts indicating that money had been taken from his account.

What Did The Victim Do Next?

The accused was arrested and the amount of Rs 44 lakh was returned Out of the Rs 68 lakh.

But the remaining amount was pending. Anything of this negligence needs certain action and thus the customer filed a complaint under the IT Act. 

Vodafone Idea SIM Card Issued Without Proper Verification 

According to the Times of India, a man called Krishna Lal Nain’s Vodafone Idea phone line went dead on May 25, 2017. So he went to the nearest company’s store which was located in Hanumangarh and filed a complaint.

Due to poor service and efficiency, the matter was not solved and he was given a new phone number that remained inactive.

Therefore he decided to visit the company’s outlets in Jaipur and filed a new complaint because the activation didn’t happen within the required time.

But unfortunately, it was completed by the next day and the culprit who received the replica SIM had already moved Rs 68.5 lakh from Nain’s IDBI Bank account using the OTPs issued by that time.

The matter was heard by the adjudicating official, Principal Secretary, IT and Communications, Alok Gupta, who levied a punishment of Rs 27.23 lakh on Vodafone, according to an IANS report.

According to officials, he ordered the corporation to return the money to the aggrieved party within a month or face paying 10% interest each year.
