For the first time in Indian Railways history, AC 3-tier economy class coach with reduced fare is being introduced. 

This new coach has started to offer its service from today when it  has been attached to Train No.02403 Prayagraj- Jaipur Express.

Attractive Features And Facilities

Compared to 72 berths in 3AC Coach, this new AC Economy coach has 83 berths

On top of that the fare structure for this coach is 8% less than earlier 3AC Coach.

More Trains To have These Coaches

Indian Railways plans to add two more trains, train number 02429/02430 New Delhi-Lucknow AC special and train number 02229/02230 Lucknow Mail as they will be augmented with this new 3AC Economy coach.

According to the Ministry of Railways, 50 new economy coaches manufactured by Rail Coach Factory, Kaputhala, are ready to offer services in Mail/Express trains over different zones.

Improved Design And Maintenance

Apart from this, they have made improved and modular design of seats and berths to improve comfort, reduce weight of the coach and improve maintenance friendliness.

In addition to this, improved passenger conveniences have been ensured.

Loaded With Features

It is in the form of foldable snack tables in both longitudinal and transverse bays, injury free spaces and holders for water bottles, mobile phones.  

Beside this, individual reading lights and USB charging points are provided for each berth.

The earlier ladder is also replaced with a newly ergonomically improved design of ladder for accessing the middle and upper berths. 

Increased Headroom For Passengers

Normally we think that if the number of berths increased in the coach then the travelers will have to compromise with the space.

But interestingly, there is an increased headroom in the middle and upper berths. 

The toilet area also got some improvement in design for the Indian and the Western style lavatories. 

Along with this, there is a public address and passenger information systems have also been installed as a part of passenger facilities in these coaches.

Considering ambience and ease of access, the coach has been improved by aesthetically pleasing and ergonomic entrance. 

Improved Interior Design

When it comes to interior design, this coach has luminescent aisle markers, illuminated berth indicators integrated with night lights with luminescent berth numbers.

Improvement in safety  is also being considered by ensuring compliance to the world benchmark of EN45545-2 HL3 for materials.

This way, it is meeting the high requirements of the new fire protection standard.
