Railways Sets Fare for AC 3-Tier Economy Coaches

The Indian Railways has set the fare of its AC 3 Tier Economy coaches and it is known to be at least 8% lesser than the price of a standard AC 3 ticket.

“The AC-3 economy class is being introduced to provide people travelling in sleeper class benefits of AC coaches”, states a senior Railways officer.

These new coaches will be attached to various Mail/Express and Superfast trains, informs the Executive Director at the Ministry of Railways.

As mentioned above, these Economy AC 3 coaches will be attached in the Prayagraj-Jaipur Express, which will start from September.

TOI mentions that passengers in the Economy coaches will have to pay about 2.4 times the base pay of a Sleeper class ticket in Mail/Express trains but less than an AC-3 ticket.

The base fare for up to 300 km will be Rs 440 which is the lowest according to the distance, while the highest base fare is Rs 3,065 for 4,951 to 5,000 km. The fare will increase with the distance.

Other charges such as reservation fee, superfast charge, GST as applicable for AC3 classes will be levied separately. Some fare prices like the child fare rules and the Concession/Free Complimentary passes will be charged at par with the standard AC-3 Tier ticket.

Railways’ Finest Quality Services to Passengers at Economical Price

Indian Railways plans to build at least 800 of these Economy coaches by the end of the current financial year, of which 50 coaches have already been made by the Kapurthala Rail Coach Factory. They will now be sent to different zones so that they can be attached to various long distance trains.

These coaches will provide premium features to economically priced train tickets. They will provide an air-conditioned, convenient, affordable, and pleasant travel experience to passengers.

The AC ducting of these coaches have been redesigned to provide individual vents for each berth.

Unlike the standard AC-3 coach, the AC-3 Economy coach has 83 berths instead of 72.

It also comes equipped with injury-free spaces and holders for water bottles, magazines and mobile phones, an improved and modular design of berths and seats, and also snack tables that are foldable in both transverse and longitudinal bays.

Each berth is equipped with amenities like individual reading lights and charging points for electronic devices.

Of the target 800, 300 coaches will be manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, 285 coaches at the Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli and 177 at Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala.
