Maruti, Toyota Will Disrupt Electric Car Market With Self-Charging Hybrid Cars: No Need To Externally Charge!

Latest development reveals that India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki is preparing hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation.

To start with, this new HEVs will be charged on the run, and wont be dependent on any power supply from roadside infrastructure.

The news was confirmed by Executive Director, Corporate Planning and Government Affairs, Rahul Bharti.

He said that Toyota and Suzuki JV is jointly preparing some electric vehicles.

According to him, these prototypes will be tested starting next month along with Toyota. 

Further saying that the JV will get more consumer feedback on usage patterns. 

He urged that till the time charging infrastructure grows in India you will need self-charging machines. 

Hybrid Electric Vehicles With Higher Milage

So, the carmaking firms will introduce hybrid electric vehicles indeed.

In case of hybrid electric vehicles, it has an internal combustion engine (ICE) that provides energy to the batteries besides wheel rotation. 

This way these powertrain system provide higher mileage than a pure ICE car. 

According MSIL,  the hybrid powertrain is a strong technology for the next 10-15 years. 

Since, it doesnt have any dependence on external charging infrastructure, so  offers a good reduction in emissions.

As we know that Suzuki has already launched the Swace hybrid in Europe.

 The model is based on the Toyota Corolla estate, and features a 3.6 kW battery and a 1.8L petrol engine. 

Apart from this the JV is exprcted to offer a mileage of 27kmpl.

As news confirms, the Indo-Japanese brand will be enter libg the pure EV space in the financial year 2025.

The company plans to launch It first in India, which will be followed by Europe and Japan. 

Suzuki EV Pricing

For the pricing, report  claims that the new Suzuki EV could be priced around $13,700, which is approximately Rs 10 lakhs. 

Currently, the Indian carmaker is also testing the WagonR EV on the Indian roads. 

The popular electric vehicle is most likely to be equipped with a 72 volt electric drive with a 10-25 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
