Infosys Will Open 50,000 Square Feet Office In Canada; Hire 100% More Employees In Canada By 2023

When a company is looking out to expand its business in a particular territory, it becomes imperative to make sure that you have the right workforce in place before moving forward on business expansions. This is exactly what the Indian IT business behemoth, Infosys is doing, in Canada.

Infosys announces new digital development center in Canada

On August 25, Infosys announced its plan to establish a new digital development center at its largest Canadian office in Mississauga. The move will create 500 jobs in the Toronto Region over the next three years.

According to plans, the center will be spanning nearly 50,000 square feet. While bringing significant investment from Infosys to Canada, this digital development center will be utilized for training, upskilling, and reskilling of employees in the technologies needed to help the country’s businesses accelerate their digital transformation.

Previously, the company had committed to double its Canadian workforce to 4,000 employees by 2023. The digital development center will play a key role in achieving this target.

The establishment of this new center will also enable Infosys to better collaborate with clients for developing cross-functional solutions to pressing business challenges.

Local Government welcomes the move

Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, Vic Fedeli looked very much enthusiastic while welcoming this announcement. He said, “Ontario’s deep talent pool, cutting edge innovation ecosystem, and competitive business costs make our province an ideal place for investment. We thank Infosys for investing in Ontario’s post-pandemic recovery by developing this global competency hub, tapping local talent, and partnering with local academic institutions to help develop a skilled workforce that will deliver new solutions, and, in turn, help other businesses thrive and grow.”

As Infosys has experience of a proven model of six similar digital centers in the United States, (which hire from local colleges and provide training and digital career paths), the experience from those centers will be useful for establishing the first of its kind center in Canada.

In the Toronto region, Infosys currently serves businesses in the financial services, healthcare, communications, retail, and natural resources sectors. With this new center, Infosys would look forward to nurturing and expanding its capabilities in Artificial intelligence, data science, automation, and machine learning.
