Elon Musk’s Satellite Internet Is As Fast As Broadband! Indians Can Pre-Book By Paying This Amount

Starlink broadband is soon to be set up in India and we Indians can now pre book the satellite broadband also!

In July, we reported to you that Starlink has rolled out pre-reservation invites in India and the service should be available by next year.

PreBookings For Starlink Open

If you are looking to get Starlink broadband connection, you can reserve the connection for $99, which is around Rs 7,300. Ookla, which is a popular company that offers speed testing services for the internet has shown that Starlink satellite broadband speeds are quite close to broadband speeds and have also surpassed some of them.

Starlink broadband company has already crossed 90,000 subscribers across the globe after the addition of 20,000 subscribers in July.  As per the Speedtest Intelligence numbers, Starlink satellite broadband delivers an average of 97.23Mbps download speeds and 13.89Mbps upload speeds.

Satellite internet is put in place to allow internet access to remote locations across the planet. This means that there is often a trade-off between coverage of the location and speed of the internet provided.

Musk’s Starlink network aims to reduce the gap between the two. Given its location in the low earth orbit (LEO) at an altitude between 550-1200 km, the satellite network is closer to the earth compared to its competitors, HughesNet and Viasat.

These satellite internet providers are located at considerably higher geosynchronous orbits, at about 35000 km away.

500,000 Pre Orders For Starlink Connection Received Already

Recently, there also was news that Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, said on Tuesday that the company has received over 500,000 preorders for its Starlink satellite internet service and expects no technological issues meeting demand.

“The only limitation is the high density of users in urban areas,” says the founder.

Musk responded to a CNBC reporter’s claim that the $99 deposits SpaceX required for the Starlink Satellite internet service were completely refundable and did not guarantee service.

“More of a challenge when we get into the several million user ranges,” Musk said.

SpaceX has not set a date for the launch of Starlink but the company expects to launch 12,000 satellites in total and the Starlink constellation expected to cost about $10 billion.
