Growing Need For Alternative Fuel Cars

Given the current situation in India where fuel prices are on the rise near constantly, people are looking to alternate fuels and CNG-powered vehicles as an alternative.

It is a good time to make the switch since the infrastructure for CNG fuel is sufficient in various cities and can be considered as a reliable fuel source.

Commercial Market Embraces CNG Vehicles

While CNG vehicles are popular in the commercial market used by taxi operators etc, it is still limited in use by private customers.

Those with commercial interests either directly buy CNG cars or retrofit the regular petrol car with a CNG cylinder.

To that effect, major automakers such as Hyundai and Tata are looking to seize the opportunity and are rolling out CNG variants of their popular cars.

Maruti CNG Cars Specs Leaked

Ahead of their launch which is expected to happen in the coming months, images have been leaked online which reveal engine details of the Maruti Swift CNG and Dzire CNG.

According to the image, both CNG models will feature a 1.2L Dualjet K12C petrol engine with a CNG kit.

It will have a power output of 70 BHP at 6,000 RPM and 95 Nm of torque at 4,000 RPM.

Lesser Power But Greater Mileage?

As expected, the figures are lower than those of the gasoline unit which produces top power of 81 BHP and 113 Nm of torque.

The difference between both is of 11 BHP and 18 Nm.

These are the only changes that will be made to both cars.

However, the reduced power and torque should not be bad news since that could translate to higher mileage.

For reference, the petrol-powered Swift has an ARAI-claimed mileage of 23.2 kmpl with the manual transmission and 23.76 kmpl with the automatic gearbox.

The petrol-powered Dzire has mileage of 23.26 kmpl with manual and 24.12 kmpl with AMT gearbox.
