70% IT Firms In Hyderabad Want Hybrid Work Model: Work From Both Home & Office

As per the findings of a Hyderabad-based IT/ITeS association body, about 70% of the companies in the city wish to have a hybrid work model in future.

With about 91% companies in Hyderabad having over 25% employees from outside the city, the growing concern of the third wave of pandemic sometime in October 2021, makes it difficult for the companies to begin operating from the office.

The survey conducted by the association body presents a numerically-backed report which translates the expectations of the working conditions in the IT/ITeS sector in Hyderabad post-pandemic.

Hybrid Model Preferred Over Rotation

Nearly 25% of the member companies of HYSEA responded to the survey, of which 37% responded preferring the hybrid work model, comprising of work from home and from office based on rotation, while 33% preferred the hybrid model based on WFH for partial week and WFO.

Of the respondents, 36% comprise of MLVL (Medium/large/very large) companies, while 45% of GCCs (global companies) participated in the survey.

About working completely from the office, as many as 22% of companies are unsure. While 6% of the respondents wish to return to pre-Covid normal, 2% want to have only essential employees working from the office.

Speaking of working from office, it has been seen that small companies have majorly initiated the work from office module for their em[ployees, as about 20% of the responding companies are currently functioning with over 20% staff working from the office.

In fact, about 76% companies are operating with less than 9% in-office staff, while MLVL companies having over 500 employees, are operating with only less than 5% in-office staff.

Of an approximate number of over 6 lakh employees in Hyderabad, about 2 lakh are from outside the city.

About 79% companies, including MLVL, estimate having 30-90% employees working from office by March 2022.
