Humans are social animals. We crave the company of our fellow beings. We like to have shared experiences. Be it a live cricket match at a stadium or a new Avengers movie in the theatres. We, humans, are always looking forward to these kinds of experiences. But Pandemic struck and it swept away all our shared experiences.
But, now as the second wave is receding theatres are opening up throughout the country barring few places, Viz. Kerala and Maharashtra. So, now if you belong to any of the places, except these two states, you can go back to theatres and enjoy your favorite movie, right now. (Obviously, we assume that everyone involved in the system is following Covid protocols!)
Several Multiplex chains have started their operations
According to reports, INOX reopened from July 30 in Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and down south in states like Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, among others.
Another Multiplex chain, Miraj Cinemas which has 150 screens will be reopening from August 5, in places where theatres are allowed to reopen.
Cinepolis which has 419 screens recently restarted its operations in Hyderabad. The company is planning to reopen in the rest of the places in the coming weeks.
Mukta A2 Cinemas, the company founded by veteran filmmaker Subhas Ghai, reported having started their operations in Vizag.
Maharashtra’s Health Minister Rajesh Tope has also vocalized his support for the reopening of theatres. He said, that the government will ease COVID-19 restrictions in 25 districts and will also allow the reopening of cinemas.
Interesting contents in the pipeline
Even though in recent times, many cinema makers, chose OTT platforms to release their movies, many have been waiting for cinema halls to reopen. Various long-awaited movies are in the pipeline. The list of movies expected to release in upcoming months includes Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi which is likely to release on October 2, Prithviraj (October 4), Ranveer Singh’s 83 (October/November 5), Jayeshbhai Jordaar (December 6). Various stakeholders are expecting Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom to be a big driver for the theatre business when it releases.
To woo the pandemic struck, viewers who are reluctant to come to closed public places like cinema halls, many companies are planning ‘Jab Offers’ for people who are vaccinated. These offers may include, extra free tickets on selected content as well combo offers on food as well.
