The USCIS will hold a rare second lottery, almost like a second opportunity for Indian IT professionals who could not make it in the first round.

The decision was made after the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) determined that the computerised draw of lots for H-1B visas done earlier this year did not provide enough of the Congressionally-mandated H-1B visas.

Second Lottery For The H-1B visa

During the initial registration period for the H-1B work permit in 2022, the US immigration service received over 308,000 applications and also saw a 12.5 per cent increase. Almost 87,500 applicants have been selected for the high-tech employment permit.

“We use historical data related to approvals, denials, revocations, and other relevant factors to calculate the number of registrations needed to meet the H-1B cap for a given fiscal year,” US Citizenship and Immigration Services said in a statement.

USCIS Accepting Fresh Petitions Till November 3

The USCIS fiscal year runs from October to September. The agency said in a statement that it will accept new requests till November 3.

For H-1B petitions, online filing is not possible. H-1B applications must be filed on paper, and a printed copy of the necessary registration selection notification must be included with the FY 2022 H-1B cap-subject petition.

In a statement released on Thursday, the USCIS states, “We recently determined that we needed to select additional registrations to reach the fiscal year 2022 numerical allocations. On July 28, we selected previously submitted electronically registrations using a random selection process.” According to USCIS, the filing period for those selected in the second round of lottery will begin on August 2 and close on November 3”
