Tata MotorsĀ  launched a new brand called the Xpres to cater to the fleet segment on Wednesday. The segment aims to address demand from corporates and state governments.Ā 

The brand will have multiple engine options, including petrol-compressed natural gas and electric and specific models. All vehicles for the fleet segment will sport the Xpres badge, differentiating them from cars meant for the personal segment.

Announcing the launch of the XPRES brand, Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, ā€œWe are delighted to launch the Xpres brand which will introduce smarter, future-ready mobility solutions to cater for the special needs of all fleet customers ā€“ government, corporates, and mobility services. Electric Vehicles deliver a very low cost of ownership, with minimal maintenance, at the same time offer a very comfortable and pleasant drive. This makes them an ideal choice for intra-city mobility servicesā€

According to Chandra, the way original equipment manufacturers offered the product in the past, the boundary between the personal and fleet segment was getting blurred ā€” it wasnā€™t optimised to meet specific needs.

ā€œBoth segments have a very different set of requirements. You have to conceptualise it so that the attributes of the products are aligned to the needs.ā€

ā€˜XPRES-Tā€™ EV 

The first vehicle to be introduced as part of the brand will be an electric sedan, called the ā€˜XPRES-Tā€™ EV (T for Tata Tigor), the company said.

One or two more models from the existing vehicle body types will be added soon and this brand will have vehicles with different powertrains, company officials said.
