Tata Launching Rs 5 Lakh Micro-SUV This Diwali: Key Features Of Tata HBX Micro-SUV; Can It Disrupt Indian Market?

It seems like the Indian Automobile industry is ready to cast away the sluggishness induced by the coronavirus-induced pandemic. The industry is buzzing with news about the launching of new car models by various manufacturers. And in that fury, how can we expect Tata to remain in a back seat.

Tata Motors started the New Year with a bang by launching a seven-seater Safari SUV. It has been very helpful for the TATAs to widen their market share in the already growing SUV Segment. To increase its foothold in the SUV market, the company is preparing for the launch of another SUV.

SUV in new Avatar

This time the SUV is not the regular SUV or the compact one. This time the SUV is a micro one. Yes, you heard it (read it) right! The SUV being planned by Tata Motors is a micro SUV named Tata HBX. The word micro SUV might not be that much familiar to an Indian ear, but Tata’s are here, to change that.

At first glance, this Micro SUV looks like a hybrid version of SUV and hatchback with major influence from compact SUV design.

This Car will be marketed as a substitute to similar cars in the market such as Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV NXT. As the company is trying to penetrate the market aggressively the car would also be priced aggressively in the bracket of Rs. 5 lakh and & 7 lakh.

The car is expected to be launched in the month of Nov-Dec, the time during which the consumer sentiment is highly positive because of the festive season.

HBX at a glance

The heart of any car is its engine and this car is expected to be bolstered with a 1.2-liter engine. The same engine is being utilized for Tiago and Altroz. The high-end version of the car could be offered with a turbocharged engine as well. Other important functions of the car include, sharp-looking LED daytime running lights, a raked front windshield, newly designed alloy wheels, and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity for top end variants.

As this is the second model based on ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) platform it could also have a higher safety rating. Altroz, its predecessor on the platform, also had received a Five Star rating.
