Airtel Beats Jio To Become India’s Biggest Telco In Revenue; Earned Rs 164 Billion In 90 Days!

Over a period of last six months, the telecom service provider Bharti Airtel has constantly been adding new subscribers to its existing base, while a similar trend is not shared by Reliance Jio.

Despite adding the highest number of wireless subscribers in February, the latter’s active user base is showing a downward trend, losing about 2 lakh subscribers.

Additionally, in a recent press release by India Ratings, Bharti Airtel is found to have reported a significant increase in the adjusted gross revenue for the fourth quarter of FY21, while Reliance Jio Infocomm has shown a declining result.

This goes on to add Bharti Airtel has yet again surpassed Reliance Jio as the largest telecom service provider, in terms of revenue, in the fourth quarter of FY21.

Bharti Airtel Surpasses Reliance Jio in Revenues

According to the information provided by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bharti Airtel has reported the highest revenue for Q4FY21.

In Q4FY21, the industry-wide adjusted gross revenue, excluding Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), has increased by 3% quarter on quarter to Rs 361 billion, states a release by India Ratings.

This increase is largely affected by a 13% qoq growth reflected in the revenue of Bharti Airtel, including Tata Teleservices Limited and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited.

While mentioning the adjusted gross revenue for Airtel, it must be noted that while the AGR for the telco has increased significantly to Rs 164 billion in 4QFY21, that for Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited fell to Rs 163 billion for the same period.

Hence, surpassing its major competitor, Bharti Airtel has become the largest telco in terms of revenue in 4QFY21.

Furthermore, the percentage of broadband subscribers too have increased to 64% of the overall wireless subscriber base in March 2021 from 63.6% in February 2021 and 47% in March 2019, states the release.
