There was also pressure from the government’s side as TRAI directed telcos to increase the validity periods.

Airtel is following suit after Reliance Jio announced its new prepaid plans which do not have daily data consumption limits.

Airtel is now offering a prepaid plan of Rs 456, also without data exhaustion limit.

It has also revised its current roster of prepaid plans by adding more benefits, extending validity period and data benefits.

Rs 349 Plan

This plan earlier gave users 2 GB data per day which has now been increased to 2.5 GB.

With this hike, data limit throughout validity period has increased from 56 GB to 70 GB

Its validity period remains the same at 28 days with unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day.

Another major USP for this plan is that it also offers users a free Amazon Prime Video subscription, valid for the plan duration.

Rs 299 Plan

This plan now has a longer validity period of 30 days, a change from the earlier 28.

The plan offers unlimited voice calling, 30 GB FUP data, 100 SMS/day and other Airtel Thanks benefits.

Users will also get a one month free trial of Amazon Prime Video.

At 30 GB for 30 days, per GB costs Rs 10, which is a hike in price.

Rs 199 Plan

This plan offers users 1.5 GB daily data for a period of 30 days.

Reasons Behind Change In Plans

The recent trend of telcos extending validity periods of their plans can be attributed to higher average revenue per user (ARPU), a benefit they hope to seize.

There was also pressure from the government’s side as TRAI directed telcos to increase the validity periods.

TRAI was representing customers who demanded an increase in validity period from 28 to 30 days.

Other plans can be expected to roll out in the near future, including a 90-day validity plan.
