This Is How CBSE Class 10, 12 Marks Will Be Calculated For All 30 Lakh Students

CBSE has announced the methodology in which Class 12 students will be evaluated as board exams were canceled on June 1. 

Class 12 results will be calculated on the basis of a student’s performance in Class 10, 11 and 12.

The New System

CBSE told the Supreme Court that results will be based on “the historical performance of the school, in terms of the best overall performance in the previous three years’ Board examination”.

Assessment of performance in Class 10 will be based on best three performing subjects in the board exams which will contribute 30% of weightage.

Assessment of performance in Class 11 final exam will contribute 30%

Assessment in unit test/mid-term/pre-board exams in Class 12 will contribute 40% of the total marks.

The results will be declared by July 31.

Moderation Committees

A moderation committee will be established which will check schools that liberally score students in order to boost their performance.

They will investigate whether a school has artificially bumped a student’s performance.

It will comprise two of the senior-most teachers in the school and a third one if necessary.

Grievance Redressal

Attorney General K K Venugopal representing CBSE has added that students dissatisfied with their results can take up Class 12 exams once the pandemic subsides.

CBSE has been instructed to create a “dispute resolution panel” to hear students who want a revision in their final results.

They will also provide a timeline “for holding optional exams depending on the situation,” as said by the court.

Sanyam Bhardwaj, controller of examinations, CBSE has said, “As marks of class XI and class XIl component will be awarded at school level, they will strictly not be comparable across schools due to the variations in the quality of question papers, the evaluation standard and processes, the mode of conduct of exams etc. Therefore, to ensure standardisation, each school will have to internally moderate the marks to account for the school level variations by using a reliable reference standard,” 

The court will hear the case again on June 21.
