Pay For Railway Tickets With UPI, Get 5% Discount Till This Date: Valid For Online Tickets?

The discount applies only to bookings made in person at PRS counters and not online.

Indian Railways is extending discounts on ticket bookings done through Unified Payments Interface (UPI)/ Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) at railway counters.

The deadline has been extended till 12 June 2022.

Computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters began accepting payments made through UPI or BHIM from 1 December 2017.

Terms And Conditions

It should be noted that the discount applies only to bookings made in person at PRS counters and not online.

For counter bookings paid through UPI or BHIM, a discount of 5% is offered on the total value of basic fare. 

The minimum fare total has to be Rs 100 in order to avail the discount.

The maximum discount applicable is capped at Rs 50.

The Procedure

Travel details must be given to the employee at the PRS counter. 

They will then tell the passenger the payable amount. 

The passenger must then choose UPI/BHIM as mode of payment.

The employee will then ask the passenger to provide their Virtual Payment Address (VPA) and will then proceed to input the same in the terminal.

The passenger will receive a message on their phone with a request to confirm payment.

After the passenger approves the payment, the payable amount will be debited from their UPI-linked account which completes the transaction.

The counter will then print and issue the ticket.
