Govt Asks These Employees To Return To Office From June 16; Permanent WFH For Some Employees Under New Guidelines

Central government employees have had their guidelines for office attendance released, amid the slightly improving conditions of the second wave of Covid-19 in India.

Employees under the post of secretaries and below will have to attend offices at a 50% capacity, from June 16 to June 30.

Additionally, pregnant employees and the disabled will continue to work from home.

Guidelines for Central Govt Employees by DoPT

In April, as the number of Covid-19 cases escalated meteorically, the Union Home Ministry issued immediate guidelines for central government employees, cutting in-office attendance and instituting staggered office timings.

“In view of the unprecedented rise in the numbers of Covid-19 cases in Delhi, it has been decided to take measures to prevent its spread, ” the home ministry had said. 

It also said that the officers of the level of Under Secretary or equivalent and below be allowed to work from home and their physical attendance in office be restricted to 50% of the actual overall strength. 

It instructed offices to operate at 50% capacity, thereby practicing a ‘flexi’ or flexible attendance schedule until June 15, post which the option could be revamped.

The Department of Personnel and Training has now issued guidelines for these employees regarding office attendance, instituting that government servants at levels of under secretary and below will have to attend offices from June 16 to June 30, states Livemint.

Additionally, this time too, government officials of this cadre will continue working at a 50% office capacity, while the other half will work from home.

Some exceptions like pregnant employees and those with disabilities will work from home full-time.
