3rd Gen S-Cross, 4-Gen Maruti Swift Confirmed For India: Check Launch Date, USPs & More

Suzuki is all set to welcome the third generation of S-Cross and the fourth generation of Swift into the automobile market.

The former is scheduled to arrive next year while the latter is to be launched sometime in 2023.

As per Suzuki’s product roadmap for the next few years in the European market, the company plans to introduce the Vitara mid-size SUV which will come with a 1.5-litre hybrid engine, paired with a four-wheel-drive configuration in 2022.

The third generation Suzuki Swift has been on sale since 2017 globally and it also reached India in early 2018.

As per reports, the all-new Suzuki Swift and Swift Sport is scheduled to debut in 2023, whereas, the Wagon R based electric city runaround is also scheduled to arrive in the same year.

There also is news that Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), the largest carmaker in the country, is looking to bolster its presence in the mid-SUV segment. The MSI lineup includes the S-Cross which has failed to make much of a dent to its rivals. MSI Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) Shashank Srivastava lamented that they have only 13.2% of market share in the SUV segment which is consequently undermining its performance in the multiple purpose vehicles (MPV) segment.

Srivastava hinted at his firm’s future plans to once again attempt to break into the midsize SUV market.

Meanwhile, it will focus on increasing the numbers of its present lineup in the coming years.

Specifications And Features

In the same year, the new generation S-Cross will be making its debut in the European market. This car by Suzuki will come with 1.4-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engines with a hybrid system and a 4WD.

As of now, the S-Cross is powered by a 1.4-litre Boosterjet four-cylinder petrol hybrid engine producing 129 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. It also comes with a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The former sends power to a 2WD or an ALLGRIP 4WD system whereas the latter only comes with a 4WD. Additionally, the crossover will be a premium model for Maruti Suzuki and is reportedly expected to be here next year or in early 2023.
