Wait.. What? MG Hector Owner Sold His SUV, Bought Maruti Suzuki Brezza! But Why?

Arora says that he wanted to sell off the Hector due to poor mileage and is happy with the new Brezza since it gives him a mileage of about 17-18 km/l.

Akshay Arora, a Haryana resident and former owner of an MG Hector has opted to buy a new Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

The story was revealed by YouTuber Arun Panwar in his video titled “If it gives a mileage of 3-4 km/l, I will obviously have to sell it” (translated from Hindi).

The Story

In the video, Arora says that his father drove the 1.5-litre petrol DCT Hector whereas he himself drove the GTX diesel Kia Seltos.

But his father was disappointed with the meagre 3-4 km/l mileage and decided to sell it and buy the Vitara Brezza instead.

The Brezza he now owns runs on a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission and not CVT despite the owner’s claims.

Panwar questions the decision by saying that Arora and his family “downgraded” in terms of their choice of a new car.

Arora then claims that he is happy with his decision since the new Brezza gives him a mileage of about 17-18 km/l.

Did They Make The Wrong Decision?

He says that they downgraded since the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has certified the MG Hector 1.5 DCT to return a mileage of 13.96 km/l.

But this figure depends on driving style and conditions. If the fuel efficiency is low, the reason could have to do with the 2 factors.

But the ARAI tests vehicles in conditions such as steady speed and without operating the air conditioner.

These conditions do not reflect the real-life operating conditions employed by drivers on Indian roads.

Hence, the figures the ARAI arrives at may not be indicative of the actual individual experience.

Most Hector owners have reported a return of 8-12 km/l on city roads.

Why Not Sonet Or A Diesel Vehicle?

The YouTuber then proceeds to show in and around the Brezza, displaying  its exterior features and talking about its powertrain and transmission.

He then shows off the boot area and interiors of the car.

The owner said that while browsing for his next vehicle, he was also considering the Kia Sonet but was left unimpressed with its mileage.

He was also asked why he didn’t go for a diesel variant, which is when he cited the higher servicing costs for diesel vehicles.

No Buyers’ Remorse

When he was asked about differences in performance compared to the Hector, he said that “for some reason” the Vitara Brezza felt better with regards to performance as well.

In conclusion, Arora says that he experiences no regret with this purchase despite the videomaker expressing his doubts about the advantages of the Brezza over the Hector and Seltos.
