The XUV Aero Comeback

Mahindra’s concept, which was pioneered by BMW with the X6, was showcased back in 2016 when the XUV Aero was introduced.

However it was shelved since Mahindra could not meet the requirements of producing 2000 units a month costing Rs 20 lakh.

Due to the lack of confidence in the business case, the project was shelved.

But now it is making a comeback, undoubtedly encouraged by the success of the Thar which propelled Mahindra to mainstream popularity.

Comparison With XUV700

It will not have suicide doors like the XUV Aero concept did. It will follow the traditional path with front-hinged door setup.

The XUV700 will be used to borrow body panels such as the front fenders, hood and front doors.

It will deviate from XUV700 with regards to the rear fenders, sheet metal changes and tailgate.

Given that it will be positioned above the XUV700 it will receive more premium features including the cabin and more customisable instrument cluster.

The infotainment unit could see major improvements with regards to UI/UX.

Speculated Features

Other features it is speculated to arrive with include-

  •  All-around LED lighting
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Multiple-zone climate control
  • Steering mounted controls
  • Power-operated seats with ventilation
  • Automatic parking
  • Lane-change assist

Engine Options, Launch, Reception?

The legacy of the XUV700 will continue with the 2.0-litre mStallion petrol and 2.2-litre diesel mHawk engines.

It will also have the same 6-speed manual and auto options.

Launch will not happen before 2024 as the vehicle is still under production at the Mahindra Automotive Design Europe facility.

Mahindra could be looking at another success here since it has the advantage of being the first to offer a product in the currently empty SUV-coupe segment in India.
