This Is How Hyundai’s Rs 4 Lakh Micro-SUV Will Look & Feel: Hyundai AX1 Leaked

The AX1 possesses a boxy design similar to the WagonR along with striking headlamps and grille. It could come with 2 petrol engine variants.

Images have been released online of a micro-SUV Hyundai is developing which is codenamed the AX1.

For the Indian market, it will be positioned below the Venue to rival the Maruti S-Presso.

Although the veracity of the images have been unconfirmed by Hyundai so far, the vehicle has been spotted on tests in South Korea.

Design Elements Spotted So Far

Traditional Hyundai design elements are given away by the triangular pattern of the grille and a round shaped headlamp..

The DRL positioned at the top hints at the possibility of a split headlamp set-up. 

The headlamps resemble the ones on the Hyundai Venue. 

The tail lamp has several triangular patterns which lends it an youthful look and could possibly attract younger consumers. 

Overall Design And Exterior

The overall design is that of a tallboy and is boxy making it the latest Hyundai entrant in the Indian market to sport one after the i10 and Santro. 

The design is comparable to that of the WagonR which provides bigger cabin space. 

The design pattern is straight-lined without curves on the exterior and even the alloy wheel design comprises rectangles. 

Other features spotted include functional roof rails, diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, and C-pillar mounted rear door handles.

Though there are no images revealing the cabin interiors, it can be expected to have square-like design. 

Engine And Variants

It could be powered by 2 petrol engine variants. 

The 1.1-lire engine produces 69 PS of power and 99 Nm peak torque. 

The 1.2-litre variant produces 83 PS power and 113 Nm of torque. This one is also featured in the Grand i10 Nios and the new-gen i20

Both will be available with a 5-speed manual gearbox or AMT.

Launch, Price, Competition

Possible launch could take place in October and its competition will include the likes of the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Mahindra KUV100, the upcoming Citroen CC21 and the upcoming Tata HBX.

Pricing could range between Rs 4-8 lakh
