Reportedly, Ola Electric is planning to enter the electric four-wheeler segment with an indigenously built electric car.

After foraying into the electric two-wheeler segment with the launch of its manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu, the cab service provider is planning to build this Ola Electric car on a born-electric skateboard platform.
Basically, this is a type of configuration for an automotive chassis that helps in bringing down the cost and complexity of manufacturing an electric vehicle.
Moreover, it is a self-contained platform having electronic motors, battery, and driving components integrated into it.
On top of that, it can be also scaled to various sizes and topped with a variety of bodies.
Ola Electric Car Design And Specifications
The upcoming Ola Electric car will be having a futuristic design.
It is expected to be a fundamentally compact city car with limited range but at a very attractive price.
Currently, the company is looking to set up a global design centre for its electric car division in Bengaluru.
This manufacturing unit will be equipped with all the requisite facilities, such as clay modelling as well as a CMF (colour, materials and finish) lab.
Apart from this, Ola Electric is also looking to provide home charging equipment to its customers for its electric cars due to the absence of charging infrastructure in India.
So far, Ola didn’t respond to any queries about its electric car plans till the publication of this article.
Ola Electric Charging Network
Prior to this, Ola Electric signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government in December last year, for setting up an electric scooter factory in the state.
With this move, Ola is looking to generate an investment of around INR 2,400 Cr for the project which will employ 10K people.
Apart from its vehicle manufacturing plans, Ola Electric is also working on creating the world’s largest electric two-wheeler charging network.
This is named Ola Hypercharger Network which will be useful for its upcoming Ola electric scooter range.
To give this a great momentum, Ola is setting up over 5,000 charging points across 100 cities in India in the first year alone.
