The philanthropic efforts of India’s wealthiest individuals, such as Azim Premji, Mukesh Ambani, and Shiv Nadar, are at an all-time high

The world is suffering and we can never forget how we are trying to get through this. The biggest brands across the globe created campaign and advertisements and tried their best to spread awareness among others. Almost 90 wealthiest philanthropists have contributed a total of Rs 9,324 crore.

The biggest Philanthropists In India And The Donations

 The average age of those on the list is 66, two years higher than the previous year’s average. The average age of the entrepreneurs who made Hurun India’s Rich List is three years higher than the average age of the entrepreneurs who did not cut. 

“Binny Bansal is the first philanthropist under the age of 40 to enter the philanthropy list… I hope this will inspire more young wealth creators to not only donate but also to speak more about their donations,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, managing director and chief researcher at Hurun India.

In total, 30 new names were added to the list, led by Am Naik, chairman of Larsen & Toubro, who donated Rs. 76 crore. The most popular cause, according to Hurun and Edelgive, was education, which received 79 per cent of all donations. 

It was followed by healthcare, which increased by 137 per cent in 2019 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and disaster and relief management, which increased by 240 per cent year over year.

Azim Premji And Family — 7,904 Crore

The Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2020 has named Azim Premji, the founder and chairman of Wipro, as “India’s Most Generous.” Premji and his family topped the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2020 with a donation of Rs 7,904 crore.

 He has given ten times as much as the second on the list, Shiv Nadar and his family.

On April 1, 2020, the Azim Premji Foundation pledged a total of 1,125 crores to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, including 100 crores from Wipro and 25 crores from Wipro Enterprises.

These contributions are in addition to Wipro’s annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes and the Azim Premji Foundation’s daily philanthropic efforts.

Shiv Nadar And Family — 795 crore

HCL Tech’s Shiv Nadar is India’s second most generous man. Nadar attributes his success to education and scholarships that he received early in his life. 

As of 2019, Nadar has invested over $800 million through the Shiv Nadar Foundation. Nadar’s wife, Kiran Nadar, chairs the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. It is India’s first private philanthropic art museum exhibiting modern and contemporary works from India and other parts of the subcontinent.

Mukesh Ambani And Family — 458 Crore

The richest man, not just in India, but all of Asia ranks third on the Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2020.

Reliance Industries declared a donation of 500 crores to the PM CARES Fund and 5 crores each to the Maharashtra and Gujarat Chief Minister’s Relief Funds to help the war against the COVID-19 pandemic in India on March 30 of last year.
