Kia Motors India, or Kia India is now planning to enter a new automobile segment early next year.

A new report has suggested that the car maker will be launching a new 7 seater SUV which will be pitted against the MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV700 and Hyundai Alcazar.

Kia to Launch New 7 Seater SUV; Will It Be Based On Alcazar?

The new rumors have revealed to us that the new Kia 7-seater SUV might be based on the Seltos. This means that the new car will come with more cabin space and a three-row seating configuration. It’s possible that some of the design elements and features will be carried forward from the Kia Seltos. 

Reports have also suggested that the Kia three-row SUV might come with the same engines as that of the Hyundai Alcazar which is to be launched in the Indian market by June 2021. The Alcazar will reportedly be powered by a  2.0-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine from the Elantra premium sedan and the Tucson SUV which will put out 159 Ps and has 192 Nm of torque. There also is a 1.5-litre diesel engine which has 115 Ps and torque of 250 Nm.

Each is mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox which will transmit power to the front wheels alone.

Updated Kia Sonet And Seltos To Be Launched Next Month

Very recently, Kia Motors announced that the new and updated Sonet and Seltos will be launched in India in the next month. 

Hardeep Singh Brar, Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing, Kia India said, “We will continue to hold the baton to drive innovation for future mobility and offering latest products for the Indian audience. Hence, we are going to offer refreshed Seltos and Sonet early next month, some surprises in between and a new segment entry early next year.”

Kia also has expansion plans that will cover 360 touchpoints covering 218 cities including tier-3 and select tier-4 towns.

After the launch of its first car in August 2019, which was the Kia Seltos, Kia India is now the fourth-largest car company in India in terms of sales. More than 2.5 lakh cars have been sold in India.

Kia also has plans to boost production at its manufacturing plant that is based in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh

The carmaker will ramp up production at its Anantapur based facility in Andhra Pradesh with a new shift.
