Indian Railways Deploy 4000 Coaches With 60,000 Beds For Helping Covid Patients (Full Details)

The Indian Railways has deployed about 4,000 COVID care coaches with a capacity of 64,000 beds at various railway stations across the country so as to assist state governments in dealing with the crisis.

Covid Care coaches will act as an extra health care service, isolating Covid patients with moderate symptoms.

The Indian Railways had started to convert during the outbreak of COVID-19 last year.

Isolation Coaches For Covid-19 Patients

At Shakurbasti station alone, 50 coaches with a capacity of 800 beds are deployed. Also, it should be remembered, however, that only four patients are currently being accommodated in the coaches.

At Anand Vihar Terminal, another 25 coaches with a total capacity of 400 beds have been stationed.

Similarly, 20 coaches have been stationed in Bhopal and another 20 in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur. Punjab will be served by as many as 50 coaches. Also, 21 coaches with 378 beds have been stationed in Nandubar, Maharashtra.

Ministry of Railways in a statement said,” As the country is battling the scourge of the current second wave of Covid, the Ministry of Railways is deploying a no-holds-barred approach by re-mobilising its initiative of Covid Care Isolation Coaches, already devised during the initial wave of Covid 19 with add-on conveniences.”

Covid Care Coaches Are Safe?

In these trying times, even the less is more. The coaches have mosquito nets, bio-toilets, power outlets, and oxygen cylinders are also available.

Extra bottle holders and clamps have been installed to hang IV fluid bottles, which have been made available in these coaches. 

The Railways makes every effort to provide catering for these patients and to keep these coaches clean. The use of isolation coaches by state governments will be available via notifications from time to time.

The coaches have conveniences viz. coolers, jute-mats to cater to the current hot weather conditions.
