Govt Asks Elon Musk To Start Electric Car Manufacturing In India; Will Be Allowed To Export Cars

On April 15, Nitin Gadkari said that he has urged electric vehicle maker Tesla Inc to start manufacturing their electric vehicles in India as soon as possible.

Urge Tesla To Start Its Manufacturing

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways while speaking at the Raisina Dialogue 2021 said that he has had a word with the management of Tesla and has assured them that the government will help them set up industrial clusters in the country.

Tesla Will Be Allowed To Export Cars

Gadkari said that the automaker has been given the freedom to choose their own vendors and export vehicles from India as well.

Tesla has outlined that it will first start marketing its vehicles in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru but not yet given assurance for the commencement of manufacturing in India, added the minister.

The world’s biggest electric carmaker which has already set up a subsidiary in Bengaluru, is expected to launch operations in India this year.

A rule book for vehicle scrapping centres will also be unveiled soon said the minister. He added that some Indian manufacturers were in the process of setting up such units in the country. Integrated scrapping facilities are to be developed across the nation as per the government plan. It will be these centers that the vehicles shall undergo a fitness test. The parameters of the test include vehicle emission, braking, and safety equipment.
