CBSE Class 10 Exam Cancelled, Class 12 Exam Postponed: How Will Be Marks Calculated?

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has cancelled the Class 10 Board Exams and Class 12 board exams have been postponed, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said today. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Class 10 board results will be prepared based on objective criterion developed by the board and the schedule of Class 12 exams will be announced after reviewing the situation on June 1, he added.

Class 10 board results will be prepared based on an objective criterion

Every year, approximately 21.5 lakh students take the CBSE class 10 board exams. These students will no longer take board exams, but they will be promoted to the next class based on a unique criterion.

The board claims that this would be “an objective” criterion. The Board has not yet revealed the exact criteria, but Pokhriyal told news agency ANI that class 10 students would pass based on “internal evaluation.”

If an applicant is dissatisfied with the marks awarded by internal evaluation, he or she will be allowed to write an exam when the circumstances are favourable, according to the Ministry of Education.

“Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams,” the Education Minister informed.

Last year, a similar trend emerged. In CBSE Board exams 2020, most of the exams were held but due to the pandemic, the Board had to cancel the remaining exams.

The result for these students was also calculated based on performance in internal or practical or project-based assessment. Especially for those who appeared for less than two papers. A similar pattern is expected to be followed now to considering the board has considered the practical exams already.

Class 12 students will be given a fresh date sheet

For class 12 students, the exams will be held when the COVID-19 situation is eased. This, however, will lead to a further delay in an already delayed academic schedule. It is also expected to postpone the admissions for the higher education institutes.
