On Sunday highest daily count, 7000 in last 24 hours, in the Covid-19 cases has been reported in Mumbai since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Highest Daily Surge in Coronavirus Patients
With this case of coronavirus surge of 6,923 new coronavirus infections, Mumbai’s tally reaches 3,98,674, according to the health bulletin.
With new 8 virus-related fatalities reported in the financial capital, the city’s death toll is 11,649.
The active cases in the city have reached 45,140. However with a recovery rate of 86%, that too 3,380 recoveries in a day, the total number of patients recovered in the city to 3,40,935.
There is a growth rate of 1.17% in the novel coronavirus cases and the rate of doubling of virus stands at 58 days.
To contain this surge, 569 buildings that contain coronavirus positive cases have sealed by Mumbai’s authorities. There are almost are 57 active containment zones in the city.
Covid-19 restrictions will be tightened till 15 April by Maharashtra government, in the light of rising cases in the city and to curtail the further spike.
Under the ‘Mission Begin Again’ program, CM Uddhav Thackeray has declared a night curfew across the state, including Mumbai from Sunday in order to curb the spread.
The night curfew in the city will be imposed from either 10 pm or 11 pm on 28 March said Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar on Saturday.
The Maharashtra government, in the light to keep the Covid cases from rising, are considering to impose restrictions “similar to a lockdown”.
In a high-level meeting held by CM with the authorities of the state, CM has asked the senior health officials & COVID task force to prepare for restrictions similar to lockdown if people continue to violate COVID-related rules.
Strict steps like lockdown are considered as people are not following guidelines seriously, said CM.
Steps To Be Taken By Administration
- Mumbai mayor has ordered hotels and pubs to remain shut during the night curfew.
- Malls to stay shut between 8 pm and 7 am
- No ban on food delivery in night hours
- Ban on holding of all types of gatherings, including political and religious. No more than 5 people allowed from 8 pm to 7 am effective from midnight on 27th March, failing to do which shall attract a penalty of ?1,000 per person on offenders
- All public places including gardens and beaches will remain closed during the same period and violators will be fined with ?1,000 per person
