India is home to some of the biggest pilgrimage and holy occasions, one of which is Kumbh Mela. Thousands of Indians gather to this place every year, and this year, the pilgrimage is witnessing a participation of over 7 lakh devotees.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic has not quite subsided yet and the number of infected patients is increasing at an alarming rate.
Keeping in mind the dangers of the deadly disease, all the devotees have now been asked to compulsorily bring with themselves a COVID-19 negative test report.

COVID-19 Negative Test Report Now Mandatory For Devotees Attending Kumbh Mela
The Uttarakhand High Court has announced that the RT-PCR test will be mandatory for all the devotees who are planning to attend the Kumbh Mela. recently, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat had announced that a negative report of the COVID-19 test would not be necessary, therefore creating a bit of a confusion.
However, as per the ruling of the high court, a negative test report is now mandatory for those who wish to attend the Kumbh Mela.
Recently, we reported to you that the central government has released a list of guidelines and standard operating protocols (SOPs) to put a check on the mela. Also, the first holy bath in river Ganges at the Har ki Pauri in Haridwar, on Jan 14 was done only after thermal screening of devotees on the borders.
Despite that, on the first day of the Kumbh, about 974 people were fined for flouting the guidelines.
Central Team Calls Out The Need For Stricter Measures To Limit COVID-19 Spread
On March 21, a high-level central team stressed on the requirement for stricter rules to control the spread of the disease, because of which, the Centre stated that there is a potential of a spike in the number of COVDID-19 cases during the biggest pilgrimage and directed stringent measures to be implemented to ensure safety.
The highest single day spike of coronavirus infectioned people was reportedly recorded with 47,262 new COVID-19 cases, 23,907 recoveries, and 275 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The total number of cases in the country has now gone up to 1,17,34,058 including 3,68,457 active cases and 1,12,05,160 recoveries. The death toll stands at 1,60,441.
