India’s 1st Fully Centralized AC Railway Station Will Start Operations In This City; Rs 314 Crore Spent!

According to reports, Indian Railways’ first centralised AC terminal which is in Baiyappanahalli, Visvesvaraya Terminal, will soon be operational.

Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal took to twitter to announce this positive development. The terminal has been named after India’s one of the foremost engineers Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who has played a key role in the development of modern India.

New Terminal To Meet The Growing Demand

The terminal which shall have state-of-the-art facilities, and will be a first for India’s railway transit infrastructure will facilitate more express trains and direct trains will be able to ply to Bengaluru from across the country.

The stations which are already functional are to be decongested and to meet the growing demand of increasing passengers.

The Chief Public Relation Officer of South Western Railway said that the AC terminal which was envisaged with a priority of making space for new trains from metropolitan cities like Chennai and Mumbai. Due to some reasons the terminal could not become operational in February, which it was earlier expected to.

Amenities In The Visvesvaraya Terminal

  1. The fully centralised AC terminal which gives the feel of an airport was built at a construction cost of Rs 314 crore
  2. As compared to the traditional looking railways stations, this Terminal shall have a grand canopy which shall give it a distinct look
  3. The Terminal shall cater to the needs of 50000 passengers per day and is spread in an area of 4,200 square metre
  4. With seven platforms being functional at a time, the rail traffic of 50 trains will be able to be managed
  5. It shall have a fully AC lobby, an upper class waiting hall, reserved VIP lounge, food court, escalators, and subways
  6. A high tech parking facility with the ability to accommodate up to 250 four-wheelers and 900 two-wheelers is also there
