SpaceX To Provide Internet On Large Vehicles Including Trucks And Ships
A request has been filed with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which clearly shows the company’s plans to expand the Starlink satellite Internet network from rural areas to other sectors. This further confirms the company’s plans to connect the network to large vehicles such as trucks and ships.
As per a letter issued to the FCC by SpaceX Director of Satellite policy David Goldman, “This application would serve the public interest by authorising a new class of ground-based components for SpaceX’s satellite system that will expand the range of broadband capabilities available to moving vehicles throughout the United States and to moving vessels and aircraft worldwide.”
Elon Musk has further revealed that that the satellite internet of Starlink will not be connected to Tesla cars because the terminal is quite big. Hence, this network will be only for aircraft, ships, large trucks & RVs.
Speed Of Internet To be Doubled To 300 Mbps This Year
The CEO of the private aerospace company had also confirmed last month that the internet speed of the Starlink satellite-based internet service would be doubled to 300 Mbps this year.
As of now, the company delivers a speed between 50 and 150 Mbps for the Starlink project that will deliver high speed internet through a network of around 12000 satellites. Additionally, the company has already put up 1000 of its Starlink satellites in orbit.
The main aim of SpaceX is to offer internet at cheaper rates for millions of people who reside in remote areas in the entire world.
