Cognizant will vaccinate 600,000 people in India including over 200,000 full-time employees and their dependents as well as about 50,000 support staff and their families.

Employees are upended by the impact and businesses have a huge responsibility to stand firm until the difficult phase passes.

During the pandemic, the company also took initiatives regarding insurance for employees and their dependents and also covering the cost of internet connection as the company believes to take care of their employees even in the time of uncertainty.

Rajesh Nambiar, Chairman, and Managing Director, Cognizant India, said in a statement that the company will also vaccinate 50,000 people, comprising contingent staff such as contract, support, and security personnel, and their families.

An Initiative By Cognizant During The Pandemic

The covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact everywhere. Companies couldn’t provide the same experience as before to customers as well as employees. Almost like all companies, cognizant too had to prepare for remote working and proposed that people from a remote location can purchase a data card or a dongle and get the cost, as well as rentals, reimbursed.

“In case of employees using their internet connection for business purposes, we have been paying a monthly telecommuting allowance as part of their payroll based on business requirements,” Nambiar said.

Cognizant also enabled all the employees to avail sick leave if they have potential symptoms of covid-19. It allowed 14-day quarantine leave and follow that up with sick leave, as and when necessary.

For medical insurance, Cognizant made a special provision to cover covid-19 treatment at home. “We have a special plan that allows employees to pay the premium and pick up additional top-up to cover covid-19 treatment costs,” Nambiar said.

 24×7 Employee Assistance Programme

Rajesh Nambiar, Chairman, and Managing Director, Cognizant India, said “It has been a year since Cognizant started its 24×7 Employee Assistance Programme to support employees and their families with valuable advice via phone and email on getting through these challenging times”

He also added “Our employees have been instrumental in facilitating critical services to millions of people around the world, including those on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, through their work with our clients and communities. We are proud of the several actions we took over the past year to address the challenges faced by our employees in rising to the situation with empathy, initiative, and courage,”
