Will Tata Motors Partner With Elon Musk For Electric Cars? Here Is The Official Truth.

There have been rumours about the potential partnership between Tata and Tesla to produce passenger vehicle (PV). However all of this was clarified by Chairman of Tata Sons, N Chandrasekaran wherein he clarified that there is no dialogue with the US-based electric carmaker and also he emphatically said that Tata shall produce their passenger vehicles on their own.

Tesla is currently the world’s most valuable automaker and there was a lot of buzz created on Twitter when the Twitter handle of Tata Motors’ Electric Mobility hinted towards a possible tie-up.

No Such Tie-up With Tesla : Chairman, Tata Sons

Denying any such tie-ups or dialogue with the US EV automaker, company Chairman Chandrasekaran said that there is no need of any partnership at present as products under Tata Motors and JLR have been “performing well”. He added that in the EV segment, Tata and its British luxury unit Jaguar and Land Rover has aggressive plans.

What is also interesting to note it that it the board of Tata Motors which previously said that it was looking for a tie-up in the PV space. According to the board, it was okayed to setup a new subsidiary in the segment.

It was anticipated since last month, that the stocks of Tata shall soar post the much-awaited India foray of the American EV manufacturer. But the stocks have anyhow soared because of the robust performance of the automaker’s car business in India.

Tata Motors Electric Mobility on January 15 caused buzz by its tweet, which was then removed later after it started to turn heads and gain traction. The Tesla tie-up was hinted through the lyrics of old Hindi film song which goes like ‘Aajkal tere mere pyaar ke charche har akhbaar mein, Sab ko malum hai aur sab ko khabar ho gayi!’.

Tesla To Enter Indian Market In Mid 2021

While replying to a question on twitter about the Tesla’s India plans in the month of October, the billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk tweeted that the company would enter the Indian market next year.

In a step towards the Indian launch, Tesla has registered a company in Bengaluru in an attempt to enter the market as early as mid-2021. According to a regulatory filing, Vaibhav Taneja, Venkatrangam Sreeram and David Jon Feinstein have been named as directors of Tesla’s India subsidiary.

Tata Motors’ electric version of Nexon mini SUV has already received a thumbs-up from the market and more models like Altroz hatchback are being planned by the automaker.

Chandrasekaran said that by 2025, Jaguar and Land Rover shall become completely electric and also that these electric vehicles will be available in India as well.
