Mumbai Local Is Now Safer With MTRC System: Establishes Connection In 300 Milliseconds, Similar to Airplanes

The Western Railway zone of Indian Railways has introduced a technologically advanced and appreciated communication system, called the Mobile Train Radio Communication(MTRC).

This system, approved by the Western Railways HQ and IIT, will play a major role in preventing train accidents and establishing an effective and instant communication path between the train crew and the Control centre.

In addition to its various features, the highlight of the MTRC system is its speed of connection. The system can connect calls at the lowest time, which is 300 milliseconds.

MTRC Tech Same as ATC in Airplanes

The new digital MTRC system sanctioned at Rs. 5.98 crore and approved by the Western Railways HQ and IIT, is commissioned in India for the first time.

It provides a technologically advanced communication system, which creates an instant and constant communication/interaction channel between the on-site train crew and the Control Centre, along with the Station Master.

A railway official informs, “The system will monitor, track and aid in communication between the trains and the control room thereby ensuring smooth movement of rakes as well as help in preventing adverse events.”

In addition to being a reliable and continuous source of communication between different parties, the MTRC system uses the lowest time to connect calls, i.e. 300 ms.

The system’s functioning is similar to that of Air traffic control (ATC) in aircrafts.

MTRC Installed in 105 Rakes in WR

The railway official informed that the new system has been installed in 105 rakes of Western Railway.

This railway line (WR) is currently transporting over 13 lakh commuters each day and operating about 1300 trains.

The Churchgate – Virar section, stretching at 60 km of Western Railway’s Mumbai suburban region, encounters heavily dense traffic routes each day, with trains running with a headway of approx 3 minutes in peak hours.

This increases the chances of train accidents. It will turn out to be more helpful during the monsoon season.

With the introduction of the MTRC system, an instant and continuous connection will be established between the train staff, control centre and the station master.
