Indian Railways Is Building the World’s Highest Rail Bridge, Taller Than Eiffel Tower! (Full Details)

According to the Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy, the newly constituted union territory of Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing speedy developmental work since the past two years, with the Centre and the State governments working together to contribute the most to the state.

In a similar feat, the world’s tallest railway bridge, called the Chenab brigde is being constructed over the Chenab river in Kouri district. 

The Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal appreciated the Indian Railways on its ongoing procession of achieving another ‘engineering milestone’, via a tweet on Thursday.

Here are all the details encircling the Chenab bridge.

Bridge Built by KRCL

Currently undergoing work, the Chenab bridge will register itself as the world’s tallest railway bridge.

The steel arch of the bridge is on its way to completion, as it almost reaches its closure position but more on that later.

The Chenab bridge is being constructed over a stretch of a challenging 111km, by the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) under the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.

The bridge will connect the ‘Valley with the rest of the country through railways’, states Hindustan Times.

World’s Highest Railway Bridge

According to the officials of the Indian Railways,

• The Chenab bridge will be 1,315 metres long with 17 spans.
• The main arch of the bridge will span 467m across the Chenab river.
• The bridge is being constructed 359m above the bed of Chenab river. 
• The bridge will be 35m taller than the Eiffel Tower, which is 324 metres.

The bridge is anticipated to be ready by March 2021.
