2021 Maruti Swift to be more powerful with 24kmpl mileage

The 2021 edition of one of the mainstays on Indian roads, the Maruti Suzuki Swift, is expected to launch on either 17 or 18 Feb. Read on to learn more about the upgrades or cosmetic changes the car is expected to come with.

What Does The Exterior Look Like?

Focusing on the exterior first, the model boasts of a redesigned grille. More precisely, a chrome strip splitting the radiator grille in half will be visible. The front bumper is also restyled. The car will come with new alloy wheels.

Changes In The Interior

Behind the windshield, new seat upholstery, a flat bottom steering wheel and cruise control are the new features. Standard safety equipment consisting of dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, speed alerts, rear parking assistance, and drive and co-driver seat belt alert are retained.

Exciting New Infotainment Setup

Most notable of the new changes is the new infotainment system. For the mid-spec trim, VXi, a 7-inch touchscreen with a feather touch panel (which won’t be able to play videos however) offers the following qualities- volume control, radio, track change, and of course the already integrated Apple CarPlay and Android auto support.

This is an improvement on the present model which comes with just a 2-DIN audio system and Bluetooth and AUX connectivity.

Old features such as automatic LED headlights, LED DRLs, manual AC and electrically adjustable ORVMs see no change.

What Fuels The Car

Under the hood comes a 1.2 litre Dualjet petrol engine giving out maximum power output of 89 bhp (versus the current 82bhp), and peak torque of 113 Nm. Also on offer is idle start-stop technology.

Mileage Sees Improvement

Fuel efficiency or mileage of little higher than 24 kmpl can be expected. This brings the vehicle closer to the missing diesel engine from all of Maruti’s lineup as of now.

Transmission options are either a five-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed AMT.

Expected Price Hike

The price will be inflated to the tune of a Rs 15,000 hike. Currently the models sell for between Rs 5.49 lakh and Rs 8.72 lakhs ex-Delhi showroom.

Given the popularity of the Swift in the Indian market the hike should not create a dent in sales.
