Leading automobile manufacturer, Tata Motors has found itself in a sticky spot now. The car maker has been issued a show cause notice regarding a complaint. The complaint is about an electric model of Tata not making it to the claimed range on a single charge.

Complaint Filed Against Tata Motors; Company Issued Show Cause Notice

The complainant has stated that the electronic version of the Nexon EV does not meet the specified range on a single charge. As per the company, the car should be travel 312 km on a single charge.

The complainant’s car is comparatively new, purchased by him from a dealer at the Safdarjung Enclave and registered on December 3, 2020. 

For this, the company has been issued a show cause notice by the Delhi transport department. The notice states, “It has been informed that while the vehicle model is specified to provide a 312-km range on a single charge, the vehicle owned by the said customer has never provided a range of more than 200 km.”

As per reports, the complainant has stated that he has followed all the advice given by the dealer for improving the state of the vehicle, but there has been no improvement. 

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) has therefore been issued a show cause notice. It also asks the OEM to send a representative before the transport department officer at 12 noon on February 15.

Will Nexon EV Be Delisted?

If in case the OEM does not send a representative to the transport officer, further action will be taken. This includes “delisting” of the said model from the subsidy-eligible e-vehicles’ list

As per the Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, a purchase incentive is provided on buying an electric four wheeler automobile. The incentive is Rs 10,000 per kWh of battery capacity on the purchase of an electric four-wheeler with a cap of Rs 1,50,000 per vehicle.

A spokesperson of the company has said that the notice has been received and all possible measures are being taken to address the issue.
