It seems that the days of the ‘new normal’, that is working for home is coming to an end at a shocking pace for the employees of the famed edtech startup upGrad.

Management Pushing Its Employees
The said EdTech firm is owned by millionaire Ronnie Screwvala, highlighted with news of management pushing its employees to report back to office, in Mumbai or Bengaluru.
Moving ahead, the management’s decision was revealed to the employees during a virtual town hall held on Sunday (February 7).
The news is hard on the employees who were remotely working for upGrad and now they have less than a week to comply with the order.
According to the employees, “Earlier, they were told that work from home has been extended to June 2021 and that if there’s any change we will be given a one month notice,”.
Imagine the hurried shift would be more difficult for employees with children and dependent parents.
Forced Location Shifting For Employees
Interestingly, it’s not the only change which the IT firm is asking for.
Latest updates indicate that the people who were hired for Gurugram, Pune, Kolkata and Hyderabad are now being asked to relocate to Bengaluru or Mumbai.
That too without any added remuneration or temporary accommodation to ease the shift.
Currently, over 2,000 people work at upGrad as the edtech major increased its employee headcount four-fold within a short period of 8 months.
Major Ramp Up In upGrade
As per the a press release in November, 2020, scaling up at that speed required the company “to review and restructure its people’s policies, as employees prepare to continue working remotely till June 2021,”.
In the same way, Screwvala also took to Twitter to say their redesigned employee policies focus on the holistic well-being of the employee n recently.
Why Would This Happen?
Many employees say that the pressure is mostly on the sales team.
Further saying that “Revenues have dipped in January is what we have heard,”.
In addition to that, recently upGrad lost a major deal.
Since the Bar Council of India had abolished the one-year Master Degree in Law (LL.M.) in India recently .
It affected upGrad as it had to withdraw its blended learning course in partnership with Jindal Global Law School.
For the students, who have already enrolled for the current course will complete the course, and their degree will remain valid.
Although, it has been a setback for the platform.
