Maruti Alto Again Beats i20, Tiago, Altroz To Become #1 Hatchback In India (Top 10 List)

Now that the first month of 2021 has waved goodbye, the list of top most selling hatchbacks has been curated. Seems like Maruti Suzuki has started the year with a bang as 6 out of the Top 10 cars belonging to the company. On the other hand, the models of Tata have taken huge jumps in terms of sales.

Here is the list of Top 10 most selling hatchback in January 2021 from top to bottom.

Maruti Suzuki Alto

As of January 2021, the classic Alto has registered the maximum number of sales in the hatchback category. Alto has achieved this feat even after recording a negative sales growth of 3.45% as compared to 2020. Last year in January, the model sold 18,914 units while this year it sold 18,260. 

Maruti Suzuki Swift

One of the most frequently seen cars on road, Swift has also recorded a growth rate of -14.01%. By selling 17,180 units, Swift has secured the second spot in the most sold hatchback car list. However, in January 2020 the car sold as many as 20 thousand units but that was before the pandemic hit India.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR

The new year started greatly for WagonR not only because it is the third most sold hatchback but also because it has significantly improved its sales growth as compared to last year. While the car had sold 15,232 units in January 2020, it sold 17,165 units this year at the same time. Recent reports are also suggesting that Maruti is working on an electric WagonR with extremely affordable prices.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Being the fourth Maruti car in the row, Baleno managed to secure a position in the list even after having the worst sales growth. Its sales have dropped down by 18.73% as it has nearly 4 thousand less units as compared to last year. While last year the count was 20,485 this year it is 16,648 units.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

The league of Maruti cars on this list is broken by Hyundai’s Grand i10 Nios. The car While the current jump in sales volume is 24%, the numbers might change this month as Hyundai has declared an offer of up to Rs 70,000 which is going to be valid for the month of February.

Hyundai i20

The predecessor of i10, the Hyundai i20 has sold 8,505 units this year. As it sold 8,137 units last year in January, its overall YOY growth in sales has come out to be 5%. This model offers a huge variety of 24 different variants priced between Rs. 6.79 Lakh and Rs. 11.32 Lakh.

Tata Altroz

The sales growth for Altoz is the largest among all the cars in the top 10. With a whopping 64% growth in sales, Tat Altroz sold 6,909 units in the first month of 2021. The number of units sold last year were just 4,313.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio

With a growth of 12% in sales, around 6,909 units of Celerio have been sold in 2021 now. Last year the same car was sold 6,236 times in January. Celerio is one of the most affordable hatchbacks offered by Maruti Suzuki.

Tata Tiago

Much like its Tata counterpart Altroz, Tiago has also recorded a growth of 60% in sales in the month of January. The 6,909 units that Tiago old in January 2021 were enough to bring it on the second last position of this list. In the same period one year ago, Tiago had sold just 4,313 units.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

The list ends with yet another hatchback model by Maruti. There was no significant change in the sales except for a dip in the sales of a few hundred units as compared to year. Around 6,893 people have bought S-Presso this year and 6,971 bought it last year.
