The Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India has merged with Punjab National Bank, thereby causing user IDs of the account holders to change.

Does this mean internet banking facilities will be suspended? Read on to find out how this will affect the customers of these banks!

Old User IDs To Be Suspended Due To Merger; No Internet Banking?

As suggested by reports, the user IDs of the account holders of the Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India have been changed due to the merger. If you have an account with either of these banks, you will not be able to conduct transactions digitally with the old user ID. 

Additionally, in effect from April 1, 2021, the user ID of OBC and UBI account holders will also be changed. If you do not change the user ID by this date, you will not be able to utilize your internet banking facilities.

All the customers of the OBC Bank have now been shifted to CBS of PNB. these customers will now be able to conduct their transactions at the existing branches and digital banking platforms, such as internet banking and mobile banking. 

How To Create New User ID?

As per a tweet by PNB, the user ID of the old customers of Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India have also been changed. After April 1, 2021, the MICR Code and IFSC Code have also been changed after the merger.

In order to create a new user ID, you will need to log in to the ‘know your user ID’ option. IIf you are an eOBC customer, you will have to put an ‘O’ in front of the user ID; and if you are an eUNI customer, you should put ‘U’ in front of the user ID. If you have a 9 digit user ID, fill it in as is.

PNB has also informed that the old IFSC codes of both the banks have been changed and they will not function after March 31, 2021. Fund transfers cannot be done using the old code as well. The IFSC Code is also required to be filled in for online transactions.
