Mumbai Local Opens For General Public From February 1, Only In These Time Slots (Full Details)

After a lot of discussions, the Government of Maharashtra has finally given the green signal to resume the operations of the Mumbai local train services.

The local trains will begin operations from February 1, 2021, after being suspended from March, a rather prolonged period.

The citizens of Mumbai are heavily dependent on the local trains to travel within the city and now they will finally be able to do so again!

Mumbai Local Services To Resume Operations: Find Out Dates And Time Slots

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s office has confirmed the news, stating that the local services will begin operating from Monday, February 1, 2021.

A statement had been issued previously by the chief minister’s office that states that multiple options are being discussed regarding allowing all passengers to travel through the local trains.

However, the trains will begin operations for the general public in fixed time slots. The local services will reportedly be operated from the first service till 7 am, noon to 4 pm, and 9 pm to the last service.

During these time slots, only the people working in essential services, such as frontline workers and healthcare staff, single women travelers, and those with a special pass from the state government will be permitted to travel.

Social Distancing And SOPs To be Followed Compulsorily By Passengers

Authorities have also requested all passengers to follow standard operating protocols on the stations and the in the trains. These include compulsory wearing of face masks and maintaining social distancing and ensuring minimal contact with other citizens. 

Passengers have also been requested not to crowd railway stations if they are not among the passengers who are permitted to travel at given times.

Railway officials had earlier revealed that an extra 204 special local services would be running on the Mumbai suburban network, in order to balance the demand and also to maintain social distancing.
