SpaceX To Enter Telecommunications Industry In India With 100 Mbps Satellite Based Internet

Elon Musk, who recently became the world’s richest person, is the CEO of SpaceX. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, on Thursday the magnate of multiple businesses, Elon Musk outdid the CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, to become the richest person in the world.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. has already launched more than 1000 satellites for the internet service of Starlink. As per reports, the company is also signing up early customers in the U.S., U.K., and Canada. 

SpaceX has now revealed that Starlink is now eyeing a piece of a $1 trillion market made up of in-flight internet, maritime services, demand in China and India — and rural customers such as Brian Rendel.

Rendel is a mental health counselor and has said that this is a game-changer and makes him a part of civilization again. Rendel is a Starlink tester because he was suffering with poor internet speed. After paying $500, he received a flat dish and antenna and he started receiving internet at 100 megabytes per second for downloads and 15 to 20 for uploads. 

SpaceX’s Plans For India: High-capacity, High-speed, Low-latency Satellite Network

There has been news about Starlink having plans for India. Also, a submission has been made by Patricia Cooper, Vice President, Satellite Government Affairs at SpaceX. In the submission, Cooper states, “Starlink’s high-capacity, high-speed, low-latency satellite network will advance the goal of delivering broadband connectivity in the near term to all Indians, particularly those without access now or in the near-term to broadband services traditionally available only to customers in urban and suburban areas.”

Its been months now that SpaceX has been launching Starlink satellites in batches of 60 on its Falcon 9 rockets. The 17th Starlink launch was on January 20 and there are about 960 functioning satellites in orbit.

However, the Starlink array in the low-earth orbit is closer to the planet that the traditional satellites and is sufficient for SpaceX to launch a service in a large region of North America and the UK. 

As SpaceX launches more satellites, the coverage area is expected to grow and increase the potential customer base and revenue stream as well.
