Central Government employees will not be receiving any dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) along with the January salary, as ruled by Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba.

Employees, Pensioners To Not Get Additional DA/DR In January
The freeze that was implemented in July last year, and will be continued beyond June 30; this is the primary reason why Central govt employees and pensioners won’t be given additional dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR).
In a meeting with the National Council (Staff side), Gauba has announced the government’s decision to not remove the freeze even after a year. The National Council is the joint consultative machinery for the Central Government employees.
A circular has been issued to its members by NC secretary Shiva Gopal Mishra, where he stated that the council has expressed irritation over the frozen DA/DR and has also demanded arrears from 1 january 2020.
As per the circular, “During the course of discussion, the Cabinet Secretary said that the country was passing through an unprecedented situation, that is why the govt had to take such an action. But he further said that, there should not be any doubt that freezing of DA/DR will continue even after 30th June, 2021.”
Government Increased DA/DR Rate From January 1, 2021?
As per Mishra, the government has increased the additional DA/DR rate from January 1, 2021, upto 28%. However, this is only notional as the employees and pensioners will not get anything in hand even though Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman claimed that the economy of the country has improved and the government might be taking back the steps taken to meet the crisis.
However, Mishra is hopeful that the Finance Minister might please the employees and pensioners by unfreezing the grant of DA/DR in the budget that will be presented in the Parliament on Feb 1. But he has stated that there has been no response from the Prime Minister’s office (PMO) to release the additional DA/DR forthwith.
