Recently, for discussing its name change and corporate rebranding, Kia hosted an industry Q&A session.

Having introduced a new logo and announced its â€˜Plan-S’ strategy, lately Kia Motors has been going through a restructuring phase. The revealed future plan of Kia hints at the intent of electrification.

To start with, the automaker will now be called ‘Kia’ and ‘Movement that inspires’ will be the new slogan. Its ‘Plan-S’ electrification strategy will be put into action as per the future roadmap.

Seven new electric vehicles will be introduced by 2027 as a part of the new strategy. Across segments, it will include passenger vehicles, SUVs, and MPVs. These electric vehicles will be built on Hyundai Motor Group’s new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Also, they shall have simple codenames from EV1 to EV9.

The First One Codenamed “CV”:-

Out of these seven new EVs, the first model to bear the new logo will debut in first quarter of 2021. The first one is codenamed CV. The CV, which will take the place of the Kia Niro EV, will arrive in production guise in Q1 of this year; and it won’t be the only new model to join the lineup. It will have a crossover-like design. It shall boast a range of 500kms and a charging time of less than 20 minutes.

“From now on, the new Kia logo will be applied in connection with model year changes and facelifts. We plan to adopt the new logo across our products and services by the first part of next year. Our first dedicated EV, codenamed the CV, will be the first model with the new logo” said President and CEO of Kia Corporation, Ho Sung Song.

Kia aims to achieve a 6.6percent share of the global EV market by 2025 and 500,000 EV global annual sales by 2026

New Purpose Built Vehicles:-

Targeting the corporate customers, Kia will introduce new Purpose-Built Vehicles (PBVs).

Based on the on flexible ‘skateboard’ platforms, these new models may be micro-autonomous pods, small individual urban transporters, mid-size commuters, or large logistical vehicles

We cannot pinpoint when it comes to what Kia has in store for India as it is still a newbie in India having launched only three models — the Seltos SUV, Carnival MPV and Sonet sub-4 metre SUV. So, those of you who might be wondering of making a EV vehicular purchase with Kia might have to wait for a while.
